About Keri

Hi there! I’m Keri, founder of The Lean Life. Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know a little about me!

I’ve been in the fitness field since 1997. I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in exercise science, became a certified strength and conditioning specialist and have worked as a strength coach and personal trainer since graduating in 2002.

Over the years, I’ve had my struggles with food and exercise. In an attempt to have a “better” body, I was always following a “plan”. Everything I ate was labeled “good” or “bad”. If I ate anything on the “bad” list, it would eventually lead to bingeing on more “bad” foods and the whole “all or nothing” mindset kicked in. It was a constant restrict, then binge cycle. I would punish myself for my “bad” choices by exercising longer and harder. Always beating myself up if I didn’t get in at least a 45- minute workout 6 days a week. It was exhausting.

In February of 2010, I found out I was pregnant with twins. During my pregnancy I ate well, exercised and actually started to listen to my body. I started to eat what I wanted to eat, instead of what I thought I should eat. I ate when I was hungry, and stopped letting a clock dictate when my next meal would be. I stopped spending hours in the gym and started to view exercise as something that was going to make me feel good, instead of just looking good.

And an amazing thing happened, I began to feel better physically and mentally than I had in a very long time.

Michael and Drew were born in September of 2010. Since then they have been keeping my husband and I very busy! Most of my workouts are done at home, either while the boys nap or while they watch a show. My “cardio” is walking my dog, pushing a double stroller and if I’m lucky, a quick HIIT workout on my treadmill.

My goal with “The Lean Life” is to support, encourage and educate other busy women. Whether you’re a stay at home mom, a college student or the president of your own company, you do NOT need a lot of time to get in great shape, you just need the right tools and a little support and I hope to give you both!
